What are stem cells potential?

Did you know that 34% of people strongly favor embryonic stem cell research? But the thing is that they do not understand that are safer and better ways to use stem cells than killing babies to get the stem cells needed. Doctors and scientists have found new ways of using stem cells so that they do not affect little baby’s lives. There are positives as well as negatives to stem cell research.

Cell based therapies present a way of replacing cells to treat diseases and hopefully can reduce the rate of deaths due to waiting lists for organ and tissue donors. Stem cells can help in many different health difficulties including Parkinson’s, Type 1 diabetes, Arthritis, burn victims, and Cardiovascular diseases. For example, providing new and healthy brain cells can help one who has suffered from Parkinson’s disease.

           

Stem cell research allows drugs and medicine to be tested without using human or animal for testing. Explore Stem Cells give us an example of how the drug tests a cancer cell line created to test anti-tumor drug. If this could be re-done it would be very accurate compared to other ways of testing.

           

Stem Cell Research

One of the most key parts of stem cell research is how much of a help it has created for cancer patients. Cancer runs in my family. Coming from my standpoint stem cell work has been a positive thing in our family even though we know there are negatives. My aunt has been battling cancer for many years. Because of how many times she had to have chemo treatments her tissues were damaged badly. Stem cells are immature cells that develop into blood cells. Dr Trevor Yeung believes that if the can target the treatments they could get rid of cancer. Cancer treatments can destroy these blood cells and cause more health problems than the initial cancer. Cancer hospitals have done research to improve the destroyed blood cells by creating new ones after the treatments have been done. There are two types of procedures to help increase the amount of blood cells after chemotherapy: bone marrow transplantation and peripheral blood stem cell transplantation. Dr. Bradford Tan believes and discusses how vital these procedures for cancer patients are.

My Aunt Sherrie and Grandfather          

It is hard from a Christian perspective and from a family and loved one’s perspective to say whether stem cell research is strong negative or positive. It a huge debate nowadays and everyone has different opinions on the matter. Knowing that it saved my aunt’s life and that is will help my grandfather with his Parkinson’s it is hard to judge people who have had such positives from the transplants, but also keeping in mind that this could have been a baby’s life. In no way am I justifying wrong and I don't agree full-heartedly with how things are done in stem cell research, but in certain situations I feel that it can be done with good reasoning and intentions.
